DIY spa treats

Hey guys it's already April and in some parts of the world its almost summer holidays. Since that is coming up I decided to show you guys how to make somethings to treat yourself during holiday. And the next post will be Spa day at home using these treats.
Of course you can always go to shops like Lush, Bath and Body Works... and buy these but at the same time you can make them in your house. In here you will find how to make: lip scrubs, bath bombs, face masks and soap pops.

DIY LIP SCRUBS (cotton candy flavoured)

DIY FIZZY CUPCAKE BATH BOMBS

Lush has nothing on these beautiful bath bombs. These fizzy cupcake bath bombs look good enough to eat!

What you will need:
Cake ingredients:

  • 226g baking soda
  • 110g citric acid
  • 100g corn starch
  • 100g Epsom Salts
  • 2 ½ tablespoons coconut oil
  • ¾ teaspoon water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 drops food colouring
Frosting ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 6 tablespoons warm water
  • 400g powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method:

  • In a separate very small bowl, combine the coconut oil, water, vanilla extract and food colouring. Oil and water don’t mix very well, so don’t worry if they aren’t 100% combined.
  • Add one teaspoon of the wet ingredients to the dry at a time. You’ll have to work really quickly, and mix it around with your hands. Pinch at the little bits of stuck together pieces to get them to come apart.
  • If your mixture is bubbling up, you’re adding the wet to the dry too fast. When this happens, just be sure to mix the wet pieces to the non-reactive dry really fast and it should stop. At the end, your mixture should feel a lot like slightly wet sand. It will stick together, but it’s going to be crumbly.
  • Mould the fizzy bath bombs immediately after you’re done mixing—this doesn’t keep!
  • Bath bombs can take pretty much any shape you want. If you want to make cupcakes out of these, line each cup in a muffin pan with plastic wrap. Hard pack the bath bomb mix into each of the cups. I mean, really pack that stuff in there, pushing it down as hard as you can. With this recipe, you only have to let them sit for about 10 minutes before you unmold them and let them dry for a few hours.
  • In your mixing bowl, blend together the meringue powder and warm water until it’s frothy. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla.
  • Beat on high until stiff peaks form. If the frosting is too stiff, add a teaspoon of water at a time until it’s a consistency you can pipe while still standing on its own. I liked adding a few sprinkles on top to make them pretty.
  • Let the frosting dry for a few hours before you attempt to wrap them up.

NEAPOLITAN SOAP POPS:

What you will need:

  • 470ml (2-cup) microwave-safe glass Measuring Cup
  • Soap Base
  • Soap Pigment
  • Non bleeding liquid red Soap Colour
  • 2.5ml (½ teaspoon) strawberry Fragrance Oil
  • 2.5ml (½ teaspoon) chocolate Fragrance Oil
  • Eight plastic freezer pop Ice Lolly Moulds 85g (3oz) capacity
  • Rubbing Alcohol in spray bottle
  • Eight wooden Craft Stick
  • Soap Thermometer
  • Small Saucepan
Method:

  • In the microwave-safe glass measuring cup, melt 255g (9oz) of white soap base. Add  the red colorant one drop at a time, stirring with a craft stick each time until you get a pink colour. Add the strawberry fragrance oil and stir well. Fill eight pop moulds each one third full and allow to set to room temperature. Liberally spray the hot soap with rubbing alcohol after pouring each layer into the moulds to remove all the bubbles. If any remain, they will be visible on the finished soaps.
  • Melt 255g (9oz) of white soap base. Allow the soap to cool to 49ºC (120ºF). Spray the pink soap in the moulds with rubbing alcohol. Pour white soap in until each mould is two-thirds full. Spray with rubbing alcohol and allow the soaps to set to room temperature.
  • Melt 255g (9oz) of clear soap base and add the brown pigment (as you did with the red colorant) for a chocolate colour. Add the chocolate fragrance oil. Spray the white soap in each mould with rubbing alcohol. Pour the brown soap into each mould, to within 3mm (1/8in) of the top edge. Spray the tops of the soaps with rubbing alcohol.
  • Insert the sticks through the melted brown soap into the firmer white soap, leaving about 5cm (2in) sticking out. To make sure sticks are centred, put them in at eye level and check the positions from the side too. Put the moulds in the freezer for half an hour.
  • Remove from the freezer and separate the individual soap moulds. To unmould the soaps, put about four cups of boiling water in a small saucepan. While holding on to the sticks, dunk each mould into the water for four seconds or so. Remove from the water and pull on the stick to remove the soap.
